![]() ![]() ![]() I have changed all of my domains to use the same MX record as was suggested where the PTR record matches now. I'm new to configuring a server so I am figuring it out as I go along, so forgive me if something seems obvious to you it may not be obvious to me. If possible when running the installation to prompt for the installation to automatically add the appropriate rules to the firewall to ensure hmailserver will communicate properly. My suggestion in the hmailserver installation steps is to add a step after loading the software to go to the firewall inbound settings and add a rule to open up the appropriate ports and spell out everything specifically even suggesting a name for the rule so that everyone will be consistent with their installation. Right now I have hmailserver and SMTP Server from IIS running. I am still not clear if I needed to install the SMTP Server from IIS as I didn't see any SMTP service when it wasn't installed. After I figured out those settings I struggle just to get the email server to connect which turned out that I needed to open ports in the firewall. My struggle was getting the Local Host Name and the MX record correct, also I wasn't sure if I should use SMTP relay since my DNS is with Godaddy and my VPS is with Hostwinds. I had everything configured and entering domains and accounts pretty quickly. Are there any other ports I need to open in the firewall or anything else I should configure in hmailserver as far as connectivity is concerned? Thank you for your information it has helped. Should I install a Name Server (NS) on my VPS and manage all domain DNS from there where I would change the NS on Godaddy to my NS on my VPS? What do I need for A record, AAAA IPv6 record, CName records, MX Records, TXT records, SRV service, and NS (NameServer) on the DNS with Godaddy? I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server hosting multiple websites using IIS7 which are correctly working, it is hosted on a different company server not with Godaddy but Hostwinds.
